When it comes to essay writing there are various things that you need to consider during the writing process in order to ensure that you complete the work to a high standard. One of the most important things is to ensure that you follow the correct structure, as well as any limits or restrictions on the amount that you should right.
For example, if you have been asked to write a five-paragraph paper then there will be a set structure that you should follow, based on an introduction, a body section, and a conclusion.
Furthermore, sometimes you will have been given a maximum and/or minimum word limit for how long your paper can be. This can be the case with a five-paragraph paper; however, even if you have not been specifically told how many words you can write, you will still have a loose restriction relating to how long the work should be, in that you should have no more or no fewer than five paragraphs. In fact, this means that you have to be as logical as possible with the paragraphs that you have, so as to include as much necessary information as possible, whilst ensuring the reader can comprehend what has been written, due to a natural flow within the content.
As mentioned, you will need to break the work down into three different sections. The first of these sections is the introduction. Your introduction should use the first paragraph, and will be used to outline important details relating to the title, so as to give the reader a better understanding of what to expect from the rest of the essay.
Essentially you will need to introduce the topic that you are discussing, and explain further about any hypothesis or question that you will attempt to answer. You might also like to give some further background information about the topic, as well as an indication of what stance you will be taking, particularly when writing argumentative papers.
The body section comes after the introduction and will need to be three paragraphs long. Each paragraph should be used to bring up a new point. For example, in a persuasive paper, each paragraph will outline a new argument that you are making.
Therefore, you should have made three arguments as part of your paper, which you will then refer to in your conclusion, which will be in the final paragraph. Essentially, this paragraph will be used to finalise what you have written, and justify any points that you’ve made.
